Living in Asheville: The Best Dog-Friendly Spots in Town

There’s no need to leave your four-legged friend at home when you live in a town as pet-friendly as Asheville, North Carolina! Here, you’ll discover a multitude of activities that you can enjoy along with your dog. From delicious meals to spontaneous nature exploration, there’s no better place to bring man’s best friend along for the ride! Just read on for our top tips on navigating Asheville with your pooch.

Outdoor Adventure

Asheville is full of opportunities for nature fulfillment and while you’re soaking in the gorgeous views, your dog will love exploring and sniffing the mountain landscape that surrounds. The Blue Ridge is the perfect playground for your four-legged friend including trails for every experience level. Leashed pets are welcome on all trails. Just be sure to pack some water for both of you and don’t forget to clean up after them! The Graveyard Fields Loop is one popular trail with breathtaking views. This one is a favorite in the summertime as the cool creek is a perfect place for dogs to cool off.

Asheville offers miles of trails for you and your dog to explore! Looking for a quick and easy trail to fill your need for a quick nature fix? Visit the Bearwallow Mountain Trail where you and your pooch can take the 1.7-mile loop as you enjoy the picturesque views and afterward, easily hit a restaurant downtown!

Doggy Destinations

Looking to venture somewhere designed for both you and your dog’s enjoyment? Asheville offers plenty of destinations and attractions that are perfect for bringing them along! For the high-energy dog, check out one of the local Asheville dog parks with fenced in areas where your dog can run free and socialize with other dogs. The dog parks in the French Broad River Park and Azalea Road Park offer water and bags onsite to make having a good time easy.

Interested in exploring the property of America’s largest home? Leashed dogs are welcome on the lush grounds of the famous Biltmore Estate. However, only service dogs are permitted in the gardens and buildings. The NC Arboretum is another pet-friendly spot where you can see gorgeous Asheville gardens and spend some quality time with your pup.

Hit the Town

Downtown Asheville is full of local culture and thankfully you can bring Fido along! There are many dog-friendly spots in the eclectic downtown area. Bring them along to browse the Farmer’s Market or hit the shops! Patton Avenue Pet Company is located on Patton Avenue and offers specialty food, treats, toys, and all kinds of fun items made just for your pet.

Looking to learn more about Asheville’s history from the comfort of a guided trolley tour? Bring your under 25-pound lap dog along and check out Historic Gray Line Asheville Trolley Tours! Here, you’ll discover the history of a city rich in architecture, history and the arts. After the tour, bring your furry friend along to the Battery Park Book Exchange & Champagne Bar where you can skim thousands of used books while sipping fine wine or espresso from the in-house bar. That’s right, your dog is allowed in all areas of the shop!

Chow Down

After your long day of hiking, exploring, and discovering downtown, it’s time to grab a bite to eat. Bring your dog along to one of the many dog-friendly patio restaurants in the Asheville area. A few of our favorites include Asheville Pizza & Brewing Company, Laughing Seed Café, Rhubarb, Southern Kitchen & Bar, West End Bakery, and Westville Pub. If you’re looking for a pet-friendly spot to get an authentic Asheville craft beer, check out Wicked Weed Brewing or Wedge Brewing Company. Lastly, top it off with a special treat for your partner in crime by visiting Three Dog Bakery or, for the both of you, try The Hop Ice Cream Café where they serve up a special puppy ice cream!
